Trump's Plot to Devalue the Dollar

One of Vladimir Putin's chief goals is to topple the American economy and one of the best ways the Russian dictator hopes to do so is to devalue the dollar. According to a new report by Politico, twice-impeached presidential candidate Donald Trump has the same in mind. One Trump official let the proverbial cat out of the bag, 

"Currency revaluation is likely to be a priority for some members of a potential second Trump administration, mainly because of the viewpoint that [an overvalued dollar] contributes to the trade deficit."

Devaluing the dollar may be one of Putin's goals, which seem to often line up with Trump's, but it won't help the American people any. There are several major implications for currency devaluation including increased inflation. Americans are already paying too much as it is for staples, primarily due to Trump's mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Devaluing the dollar could send prices soaring even higher. 

Another major consequence of devaluing the dollar is that it could weaken U.S. sanctions on adversaries like Russia and Iran. Such an act by the Trump administration could also send the global economy into a tailspin by causing an unprecedented global trade deficit. 

President of the National Foreign Trade Council, Jake Colvin, believes that devaluation of the dollar would cause significant harm to business in the United States. Further Colvin attests, 

"There is the additional risk that the pursuit of a weaker dollar could spark a number of unintended consequences including inflationary global currency and trade wars."

So, there you have it. Trump's grand plan for the economy includes raising prices, destabilizing the power of the dollar, and minimizing the impact of American sanctions on foreign adversaries. Trump's plan would cause prices to skyrocket, leaving the American people with an economy that resembles the future Larry Norman once sang about where, "A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold."
