Chris Christie On the Time Trump Tried To Kill Him
Donald Trump and Chris Christie |
Former New Jersey governor and twenty-year Trump friend, Chris Christie, was a recent guest on David Axelrod's The Axe Files podcast. Christie talked politics and also opened up about that one time Donald Trump knowingly gave Christie and others in his cabinet Covid.
According to Christie, Trump knew he had Covid, but failed to tell anyone. While prepping for the debate against Joe Biden, the former guy told Christie and his closest associates that their masks could be removed, if they wanted to do so. Trump failed to disclose that he had tested positive for Covid earlier that day. Christie spent the next four days with the Russia asset unknowingly exposing himself to a level three pathogen that would nearly end his life.
Trump was the first to get symptoms, but once again told no one. Hope Hicks was next and called everyone. Christie was the last of Trump's cronies to fall ill, but did not get the immediate emergency intervention Trump did while at Walter Reed.
Christie credits the intervention of Eli Lilly for saving his life. At the behest of Christie's wife, the drug company provided their monoclonal antibody treatment, without which he would have likely died. The former governor spent 7 days in the ICU and was one day from intubation.
I wound up in the hospital, in the intensive care unit for seven days, at a time when there were no treatments. There was clearly no vaccine and basically, they didn't know what to do. I really believe it's what saved my life because my values were going down for three days before I got this. I got this. They stabilized.
Christie did not find out Trump had knowingly given him Covid until one year later, but that didn't stop Trump from calling while Christie was in the hospital, "You're not going to tell the press that I gave it to you, are you? You're not going to blame me, right?"
At the time, Christie thought the question absurd because he did not know who patient zero, the person who gave him Covid, was so Christie agreed to stay mum when it came to the press.
In typical Trump fashion, he used Christie's courtesy as an opportunity to throw yet another associate under the proverbial bus. While Christie stayed loyal and quiet, Trump went to the press and blamed the former New Jersey governor for having given him Covid.
You know Christie. He was sitting across from me at debate prep. He was spitting and everything. I'm sure I got it from him.
He propagated this despite knowing the exact opposite was true.
The incident was egregious enough to open Christie's eyes to Trump's depravity and ended their friendship. Christie ran against Trump in the 2024 Republican primaries primarily because he saw himself as the only Republican candidate who would tell the truth about the twice-impeached president's character.
