A Budget is a Moral Document
Republican Speaker of the House (for now) Mike Johnson |
It was former Bill Clinton advisor Paul Begala, who once said, "Budgets are moral documents." Begala suggested that federal budgets should reflect the morals and values of the majority of American people. It was the 90's after all, simpler times. These were the days when American values were clear cut and didn't include the mass starvation or depravation of health care for millions of our own people.
Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson's budget suggests a departure from our American values of the past. In the proposed Republican plan, Johnson and his pro-starvation cronies seek to cut $1.5 trillion (with a t) from Social Security in what would prove to be one of the most egregious thefts in American history, robbing the monies hard-working Americans have already put into the system. And why?
The proposed plan goes further in a direct attempt to hurt America's seniors in ways ignoring Covid could not accomplish for the Republican party. Johnson's plan also proposes eliminating the $35 Medicare cap on insulin prices and would halt Medicare's ability to negotiate drug prices, raising prices to unsustainable levels for America's seniors.
This is their proposed budget, a revelation of their morals, of true GOP values. And why?
I'm sure you will remember President Joe Biden's 2023 State of the Union speech when the president accused Republicans of coming after Americans' social security. The Republican party, like the brood of vipers they are, hissed at the president, feigning their disgust and dismay at the mere suggestion. But the president was right. The Republican party isn't hiding it anymore and have their sights set on your Social Security. They won't stop there! The budget also provides cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, two programs instrumental to America's social safety net.
And why? As you may have guessed, it is the same old ruse: to provide for additional tax cuts for America's richest all while America's poor and middle class foot the bill.
So, where does it all stop for the GOP? How much longer will they get away with this reverse Robin Hood game they've been playing since the days of Ronald Reagan? It will continue until the Republican party is entirely humiliated and fully repudiated at the ballot box.
Election Day 2024 falls on November 5th. Vote accordingly.
