Trump Survives Right-Wing Assassination Attempt
Donald Trump survived a right-wing assassination attempt |
Former President Donald J. Trump was injured by an assassin's bullet yesterday in Butler, Pennsylvania. The gunman, now identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire, injuring two and taking the life of another spectator. Crooks was neutralized by a police sniper, but only after firing 8-10 shots into the crowd.
The incident happened six minutes into Trump's speech. Crooks was positioned on a roof, just 450 yards away from the event. Trump described the following in a Truth Social post,
"I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening."
Then the architect of the January 6th insurrection, who has done nothing if not incite violence over the past decade, had the audacity to add,
"It is incredible that such an act can take place in our country."
Never allowing a good opportunity to go to waste, the right-wing went into full-on idiocy after the shooting, blaming everyone from the LGBTQ community to President Biden. Crooks turned out to be a right-wing extremist, a gun nut and a registered Republican. Ironically, the gun Crooks used appears to be an AR-15, the preferred choice of school shooters, the same gun depicted with the lapel pin Republican senators and congresspeople like to wear. This party regularly mocks the mass shooting of school children and shuts down any legislation that would keep them safe, but now has the audacity to feign concern when one of their own is shot. This is a reminder that the number one cause of death for our nation's children is gun violence. This is the case, solely and exclusively because of the Republican Party, a group callous enough to enjoy NRA money more than they care about children breathing.

With all the audacity they can muster, Republicans and their darlings in the news media are now calling on Democrats to tone down the rhetoric. Seriously. These are the same people who cheered a kidnapping attempt on Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the same troglodytes that laughed with glee when a crazed lunatic crushed Paul Pelosi's skull with a hammer. Anyone on the internet knows what it's like to be targeted by right-wing psychopaths, who are fascinated with killing all of their enemies once Donald Trump becomes president. And there's that pesky kill list, as well. Compiled by Ivan Raiklin, Trump's Secretary of Retribution, the list features more than 400 people declared as Trump enemies. President Biden is named in that list.
While anyone left of center is being admonished for their rhetoric, here is what the ever-compassionate Trump had to say after then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's husband had his skull bashed in with a hammer,
"I will stand up to crazy Nancy Pelosi, who ruined San Francisco. How's her husband doing by the way? Anybody know? [he shakes his head with a look of disgust] And she's against building a wall at our border even though she has a wall around her house, which obviously didn't do a very good job."

Here is what Donald Trump, Jr. posted after the assassination attempt on Paul Pelosi:
While the news media is accusing Democrats of incitement, here is what Republicans were saying in the aftermath of the assassination attempt.
Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, who live tweeted Speaker Pelosi's exact whereabouts during the January 6th insurrection, blamed President Biden for the attempt,
"I believe that much of the rhetoric from the left has escalated to this moment. Just last week we saw Joe Biden trying to excuse his poor performance at the debate and get that behind him, and say, 'Now we need to put Trump in a bullseye.' President Trump was literally put in a bullseye after the President of the United States - the sitting President of the United States called for him to be put in a bullseye. I do believe Joe Biden is responsible for the shooting today."

Never one to be upstaged, 'Moscow' Marjorie Taylor-Greene added,
"Democrats wanted this to happen. They've wanted Trump gone for years and they're prepared to do anything to make that happen."
Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance blamed President Biden,
"Today is not just some isolated incident. The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to President Trump's attempted assassination."
Last but certainly not least is Georgia Congressman, Mike Collins, who said,
"The Republican District Attorney in Butler County, PA should immediately file charges against Joseph R. Biden for inciting an assassination."
He later added,
"Joe Biden sent the orders."
All of this baseless speculation and incitement was levied before the shooter was even identified. Thomas Matthew Crooks was not a liberal or a leftist. He was no Biden supporter, but a registered Republican, who died wearing a right-wing militia t-shirt and holding onto the chosen mascot of the GOP: an AR-15. This baseless rhetoric puts President Biden in danger. It is incitement, but they know that. For MAGA, violence has always been the goal. Dear Leader Donald Trump has spent the last decade inflaming political tension with violent rhetoric. No one should be surprised that violence came to find him.
Those on the left took the high road and sent messages to the former President, wishing for his safety and well-being. While those on the right were calling for a Civil War, President Biden proved that both sides are indeed fundamentally different from one another,
"There's no place in America for this kind of violence. It's sick. It's sick. It's one of the reasons why we have to unite this country. We can not allow for this to be happening. We can not be like this. We can not condone this....The bottom line is that the Trump rally is a rally he should have been able to conduct peacefully without any problem. The idea that there is political violence or violence in America like this is just unheard of. It's just not appropriate. Everybody, everybody must condemn it. Everybody."
President Biden did reach out to Donald Trump later that evening to offer his well-wishes.
What this means for the upcoming presidential election is not yet known. It is possible that Donald Trump sees a boost in the polls, but also just as likely that a fascist who attempted to violently overthrow the American government on January 6th may find sympathy difficult to come by. When President Reagan was shot, his approval ratings went up by as many as twenty points, but that was a different time, and Trump is no Ronald Reagan. Not only does Trump have to contend with being a wildly unpopular figure, but the average voter's attention span is much shorter than in 1981. With today's constant news cycle, it's likely that there will be more to come that will also garner attention. In 1912, Theodore Roosevelt was shot by an assassin's bullet. Unlike Trump, he had the strength and stamina to finish the speech he was giving. Roosevelt went on to lose that election to Woodrow Wilson.
As for this site, we will not change our rhetoric or alter our tone. We will continue to unabashedly report the truth without fear of reprisal or consequence. We do not condone political violence, but political violence does not change the fact that Donald Trump is an enemy of everything it means to be an American. If elected, there will be untold consequences for this country and for the American people - consequences that would endure for generations to come, if not forever. We will not stand idly by while democracy dies. We proudly stand against everything Donald Trump stands for.
As for Trump, we offer him our thoughts and prayers.
