Russia to Begin Kidnapping Newborns Today
Stolen Kremlin Babies |
The Russian government continues its massive child trafficking program, as it implements a new policy to kidnap more Ukrainian children. This time the Russian government has its eyes set on Ukrainian newborns.
According to the Institute for the Study of War, mothers in the occupied region of Luhansk Oblast are required to prove that at least one of their newborn's parents are Russian, or the child will not be released from the hospital, instead becoming a ward of the Kremlin. The mass-scale child abduction program begins today on May the 6th.
Kidnapping children is obviously abhorrent, but it is also a violation of the Genocide Convention. According to Article II(d) of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide notes that genocide also includes, "imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group." Article II (e) also defines genocide as, "forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."
Olga Onuch, University of Manchester Professor of Comparative and Ukrainian Politics, sums it up best in the following,
"Forced citizenship or they take your child. This is the life of Ukrainians under occupation. This is what Ukrainians are fighting for. This is why they do not support territorial concessions."
